Hey, you all. Happy Thursday!

Today, we’re talking all about love. See what I did there? It’s the book’s title, and that’s our topic.

Alright, let’s get started. Hello, welcome back to my page. My name is Timothy Dwight, and these are the Dwight pages.

It’s so good to see you all! If you’re new to my channel, welcome, and if you’re returning, hey, nice to see you again.

We have a whole studio audience situation here, so get used to it. But let’s dive back into the topic. Today, where should I start? Let’s keep it accurate because that’s how we do it on my channel.

We keep it honest. I’m not feeling my best today, emotionally. So, we’ll see how this goes. Okay, I might feel like a mess, but you know why I started this channel. It may not be the sole reason I started this channel, but it’s a facet of who I am.

So, we’re just going to have to deal with this. You won’t see if I end up not doing this video. We’re wondering what matters right, so here we go. For this series in February, I wanted to focus more on creating heart-centered content. And by heart-centered, I mean things that mean a lot to me.

For the first video, if you’ve seen it, I’ll leave a link in a card symbol. I talked about black queer youth. That topic means something to me because I was once a black queer youth, and to this day, I see the importance and advocacy for the black queer youth that exists.

And I am always looking for better ways to advocate and be a champion for black queer youth. So, that was my first video, and today, I want to continue getting you all to know me and what I value more. Yes, we will discuss “All About Love” by bell hooks today.

But coupled with that, I would like to discuss my journey reading this book and a few of my love-related relationships, right?

In particular, I wanted to compare what bell hooks talks about regarding love, showing love, and receiving love as it relates to my relationship with my now-estranged father. So yeah, you’re just going to get to know me a little bit more, and you’re going to be a little bit more in my business.

But this is a worthwhile conversation because, during Valentine’s Day, people often associate this holiday solely with romantic love. Although I have romantic love from my partner and many friendships in my life, I want to bring this conversation into the familial realm. Just thinking about Valentine’s Day reminds me that I miss my father.

And that is a valid feeling during a time that is supposed to be a fest and merriment of love. So yes, that is what we will discuss today: Daddy issues. Let’s dive into “All About Love” by bell hooks. She talks about, you guessed it, everything about love, including familial love, spiritual love, romantic love, and love amongst friends. However, I will focus on the first three chapters of this video.

The first chapter of this book is entitled “Clarity: Give Love Words.” bell hooks argues that love, often said to be indefinable, can be defined and understood. The chapter discusses the different ways in which love can be sustained, often going beyond mere affection or attraction.

The second chapter, “Justice: Childhood Love Lessons,” explores our childhood experiences and how they shape our understanding of love. It was a challenging chapter to engage with, as it made me reevaluate moments from my childhood and how they’ve influenced my adult life, especially regarding relationships.

The third chapter, “Honesty: Be True to Love,” discusses the importance of honesty in any loving relationship. bell hooks suggests that true love cannot exist without honesty, even in familial relationships. This chapter particularly resonated with me in reflecting on my relationship with my father.

That’s a bit about the book and how it relates to my life. It’s essential to have these discussions, especially during holidays like Valentine’s Day, which are often focused solely on romantic love. We should use these occasions to reflect on all types of love.

Alright, we have reached the end of this video. If you made it this far, please leave a heart-eye emoji in the comments. And, of course, please like, share, and subscribe if you liked this video. I’ll see you next week!
